Dawn Jaffier, 26, is shot and killed.
August 23, 2014
The University of Massachusetts graduate and former City Year volunteer and Hennigan School teacher is struck by a stray bullet during an exchange of gunfire between rival gang members at the corner of Blue Hill Avenue and Charlotte Street shortly before the early morning start of the J’ouvert Parade. On January 8, 2018, shortly before the two men convicted in the shooting are sentenced to life in prison without parole, the victim’s father Ian Jaffier tells the court, “These defendants have robbed me of being a father, of being father of the bride, of the possibility of having grandchildren from my daughter. I’ll never see my superstar again.”
